I think his assessment was very reasonable at this point in time.

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

My guess is that WSU may have some struggles in the OOC schedule (which might or might not result in loses) which will help the team mature and come out strong in conference play. I am not predicting another MVC title but I would not be completely surprised if this occurs, given the level of talent which APPEARS to be joining the team.

These rankings make sense to me. CU and ILST have to be the favs based on returning players. UNI is a proven winner over the last 10 years. WSU is the wild card depending on a bunch of new and unproven players but has enough returning from a Valley championship team to warrant a top 3 or 4 prediction. The rest is a bit of a crapshoot.
I'm interested to see what MSU looks like post Weems. For the sake of the Valley I hope they don't step back much.
The sooner SIU and Bradley can return to some prominence the better for the Valley.

I guess he did also lead his under-sized team with no main player over 6' to a 3rd place finish without their injuried 6'2"#1 rebounder and #4 scorer. Oh, and he finished 2nd among the 4A boys in the 3 pt shootout. But you're right, FVV didn't do much. And of course, no one in Peoria would know that he was 1st team 4A All-State.
